One of my favorite Culinary Herbs here at the greenhouse is Bronze Fennel.

Bronze Fennel is a perennial. It is drought tolerant and likes full sun.

The plant grows to about chest high, but can be trimmed to be any lower height. It puts out babies at the base and will drop seeds in place…But it is not invasive.

It dies back at the first killing frost, but pops out again come Spring.

It can be used in salads for an anise/licorice flavor. I like to use it as a base on the serving platter for hot chicken or fish. It sends out a lovely aroma. Bronze Fennel can also be used as a feathery addition to flower arrangements.

It does not have the bulb at the base like edible green fennel, the vegetable.
Also, you do not want to place it too near a planting of Dill. They might cross-pollinate.

It makes a lovely, fernlike background plant in a perennial or mixed border, as well as a free standing specimen plant.

A customer had used it in a old half barrel by his pool, and was very pleased.

Most everyone who comes for unusual herbs here at the greenhouse goes home with a plant or more. I have never seen it at other greenhouses.
